If you’d like a simple, elegant way to keep your Mac Desktop free of all the miscellaneous clutter that inevitably ends up there, you can pay money for a program like DesktopTidy or Unclutter, or you can use this workflow for Alfred 2 to achieve pretty much the same thing.
What it does is provide a special “drawer” folder for keeping all your Desktop crap in, nicely out of sight, but quickly accessible (via Alfred - see screenshot above) when you need it. Just like the top drawer of your IRL desk!

My EggTimer 2 workflow for Alfred is finally feature-complete and ready for your downloading pleasure.
You can use EggTimer for something as simple as reminding you when your favourite TV show is about to start, to automatically prompting you to take breaks every hour.
Full documentation is included in the workflow. Just run timer help in Alfred.

NOTE: The following instructions apply to the version for Alfred 1. For Alfred 2, you can get detailed instructions by typing "dial help" into Alfred after installing the workflow.
UPDATE (22 March 2013): This extension is now superseded for EggTimer 2 for Alfred 2. However, if you are still using Alfred 1, then this version will work for you.
I’m pleased to announce EggTimer, my first (public) extension for Alfred.
Alfred is an awesome productivity app for Mac — app launcher, file browser, hotkey manager, command prompt, file-actioner, and more, all in one sexy, functional and highly extensible interface. It’s free, but to get all the bells and whistles (and you really do want them) you’ll need the Powerpack. The Powerpack also allows you install extensions, so the tricks you can get Alfred to do are really only limited by you imagination. (My “Household Chores” extension is in the pipeline — but don’t hold your breath.) See some of the ways others have already extended Alfred: Extensions
EggTimer for Alfred is a simple timed-notification system that allows you to set reminders for yourself while you’re at your computer. Something on the stove? Tell (your digital) EggTimer to remind you. Don’t want to forget when your favourite TV show is about to start? EggTimer at your service. Need to remember to have a break every hour? You get the picture.
EggTimer supports multiple simultaneous timers, with snooze and repeat functionality. You can even set a timer to automatically repeat periodically.
Well, hello there.
Welcome to my new home for the geeky shit I create (computer programs, nerdy problems I’ve solved, etc.) that I think might be useful to others.
Coming up soon (and the impetus for starting this blog), is a couple of extensions for the awesome Mac productivity tool/app launcher Alfred. Alfred is one of those brilliant tools that, once you get used to it, you feel like you’ve leapt back in time five years if you sit down at someone else’s computer (but with out the actual time travel, which would be awesome).
Anyway, I’ve been working on a pretty nifty little extension for Alfred that was borne out of my frustrations with similar extensions that just didn’t quite do what I wanted. So what the hell, I started to write my own. And one thing lead to another and it ended up being fairly feature-rich. There’s nothing quite like having a mind-numbing day job you’re supposed to be doing to inspire procrastination (or, as I like to say, alternative productivity) on something else. That’s where most of my best creations are seeded.
Hopefully will have it ready to release in a couple of days. And welcome to the blog.
